Playlist for show number 15 - 25 April 2012 plus tribute to Greg Ham

Today Stibbard-me-Timbers show played tribute to Greg Ham from Men At Work who sadly left us last Thursday 19 April. We played 2 songs from the Business As Usual album which was a major success overseas especially in the US. It was the only in Australian History that an Australian music act have achieved both a number 1 album and number 1 single in the US simultaneously. Men At Work have sold 30 million copies from the 3 albums they produced, the other 2 being 'Cargo' and 'Two Hearts'. Men At Work split up in 1985 when Greg Ham left the band. It was sad that the release of "Down Under" which was number 1 in the US for 5 weeks recorded in 1981 became the subject of a copyright law case initiated by a Publishing company as late as 2002 where they purchased the rights of 'Kookaburra'. Kookaburra was written for a competition held by the Girl Guides in 1935.

Given that the case wasn't initiated until 2002, I question the reason it was initiated in the first place when this song, with the flute riff, had been made public for 2 decades. It is my opinion which I also believe are held by a majority of musicians that it was unfortunate that this case be initiated and most musicians I know thought that the result of this case was bad.

In introducing playing Down Under I announced on radio
"Greg Ham, If you are there upstairs, this riff was yours"
